So guess what – I will be covering Lakme Fashion Week 2016, every single day this season. And I will be blogging daily about it!! As you must have all figured out from my twitter & Instagram updates – I was at the opening show of Lakme Fashion Week yesterday.
Yes, I got an invite to attend Manish Malhotra’s show live. (SCREAM OUT LOUD!!! ) If there’s one person who can blend the right amount of grandeur with subtlety, it has to be the man himself. What a spectacular show it was!! These are 4 things I loved about Manish Malhotra’s opening show at Lakme Fashion Week SS 2016.
4 Things I Loved about Lakme Fashion Week ’16 – DAY 1
1) THE SETS
OH YES! Before the show begun – we got a sneak peek into the sets & the stage. I’m not kidding – I felt like I was transported to a different time zone. It was ethereal. There were pretty white birds hanging from the ceilings, chirpy sounds, there were snowy trees constructed & the sets were carefully crafted to make it look like a white forest, befitting the show’s theme which centered on nature.. And it didn’t disappoint at all.
2) THE COLLECTION
Which brings me to my next point – The theme for the opening collection was inspired by elements – earth, water, wind etc – and these were perfectly reflected in his surreal designs.
While the focus for menswear were on crisp and sharp kurtas & blazers, Malhotra concentrated on embellished gowns, lehengas, trails jumpsuits, saris and everything that dreams are made of, for the women! All of these were showcased in pastel shades of pink, blue, green and orange.
3) TECHNOLOGY
Manish Malhotra’s show at the Lakme Fashion Week 2016 was a clever blend of fashion and technology. Whether you talk about the subtle music, the soothing lighting or even the very strategically flying cameras all over the venue, it was truly of international standards. Kudos to LYF smartphones for coming up with a concept like that – LYF smartphones are also about moving the culture forward. These smartphones are derived from natural elements like –Earth, Water, Wind and Flame. I was given the earth version from the LYF smartphones to use and the photos came out dazzling! 4) BOLLYWOOD
While Arjun Kapoor & Jacqueline Fernandez were the showstoppers for the opening show, we also spotted Kareena Kapoor, Farah Khan, Dia Mirza & Zoya Akhtar chilling on the front row.
Well, truly this is JUST the beginning of the 5 day long extravaganza. Lakme fashion week 2016 will also see six international designers like Lina Wassong, Melissa Coleman, Valerie Lamontagne, Igor Knezevic, Kristin Neidlinger and Chritian Bruns joining hands for the first time to present a collective showcase of fashion and technology titled “ElektroCouture”.
