The Republic Day Long Weekend is here and it is a great opportunity for you to take a quick holiday to somewhere close by. In fact, over the last couple of years, a number of short breaks have become quite popular among vacationers as opposed to a single long vacation. Some extremely popular short destination in India starting from Mahabalipuram, Goa, Kumarakom, Udaipur, Jaipur, Darjeeling etc., but following are few lesser known destinations for weekend getaways.
Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer fort is a living fort and a UNESCO World heritage site. You will also find a number of prominent wild denizens like leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, Gaur, barking deers, wild boars etc.
Coorg
In recent times, Coorg has become a popular destination for traveller’s opting for short breaks. Coorg is an anglicised name for Kodagu which is a district in Karnataka State and capital of this district is Madikeri. Coorg is referred to as the ‘Coffee Cup of India’ and this is one sobriquet that Coorg wears with an almost possessive air. After all, some of the world’s best coffee is grown here, and the slopes are redolent with the aroma of fine Arabicas and Robustas. Coorg also offers a few interesting places to visit i.e. Dubare Elephant Camp, Byle Kupp – Tibetan settlement and monasteries, Rajas Seat, Abbey Falls, Omkareshwara Temple.
Great Rann Of Kutch
The Great Rann of Kutch is a salt Marsh located in Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. The Rann of Kutch is famous for its white salty desert sand and is reputed to be the largest salt desert in the world. ‘Rann’ means desert in Hindi which in turn is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Irina’ which also means desert. The climate in Rann owing to its desert land is considered to be one of the harshest and hottest temperatures recorded in India. The government of Gujarat holds a three months long festival known as ‘The Rann Utsav’ every year starting from December to February. There are a few handicraft villages around Bhuj and offer a traditional local handicraft to the visitors.
Shillong
Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is the home to numerous waterfalls. The exciting mountain peaks, crystal clear lakes, breathtakingly beautiful golf courses, museums and the zoo are the key reasons why people visit Shillong. Apart from the natural beauty, Shillong also acts as the gateway to Meghalaya, the state famous for heavy rainfalls, tallest waterfalls and beautiful landscapes.
