Ever since the show premiered on Star Plus in April, “Ek Hasina Thi” is one show this year that has consistently kept the general audience hooked to their TV sets every night . The different concept of the show has attracted lots of people. With a stellar star cast and unpredictable twists, the show seems to be doing really well so far.
Here are 5 reasons why I love watching Ek Hasina Thi
1) It’s different!
As clichéd as it sounds, the show IS different! Indian television tends to revolve around family life and the stereotypical ‘saas-bahu drama’ is nothing new. However Ek Hasina Thi is edgy and is an out and out revenge drama. Set in the metropolitan city of Calcutta, Ek Hasina Thi shows the journey of Durga and how she plants revenge with the motive of seeking justice for a crime committed in the past.
2) Unexpected Revelations
There are twists and turns with every passing episode. More revelations are made about the people. There’s always something unexpected in the story line which creates the right level of suspense and curiosity. Durga’s meticulous planning is interesting to watch. Overall, the entertainment quotient of the show is pretty darn high!
3) Social Issues
Ek Hasina Thi addresses problems that exist in Indian society. It reveals the level of corruption & bribery that happen in the country along with the state of women in India. The show deals with violence against women. It not only raises awareness about rape, adultery but also denounces it.
4) Sanjeeda and Simone
These two ladies are the essence of the show. Sanjeeda Sheikh, who plays the determined Durga Thakur, portrays the sentiments of an emotionally wounded yet determined girl really well. Despite her courageous and strong personality, Sanjeeda also adds a certain level of vulnerability to her character which is rare to find in an actor. Simone Singh plays Sakshi Goenka, mother of Shaurya (the guy who rapes Durga’s sister). Simone’s character is full of grey shades and she’s superb in her villainous portrayal. Simone has a powerful screen presence and the character she is playing is shown to be a cunning and materiaslitc lady. Yet when it comes to Shaurya, she loves her son unconditionally and goes to any extent to protect her son from all problems. Simone does a wonderful job!
5) It is set in the City of Joy, Calcutta.
Ek Hasina Thi is set in in the eastern megalopolis of Calcutta. Bollywood has seen many interesting films set in Calcutta- Kahaani and Barfi being prime examples of that. Being a Bong, Calcutta is a city that is close to my heart, and well, there’s nothing not to love about it!
Ek Hasina Thi is a show definitely worth watching! Catch it on Star Plus from Monday to Saturday at 8 PM Indian time.
If you have been watching the show, tell us one reason why you love Ek Hasina Thi and if you could change one thing about it, what would it be and why? The best answer will get something exciting from the TEAM SPOTLIGHT.
