For the first time in its 63 years of existence, one of India’s best bakeries has set up shop in Mumbai. Well to be very honest – being brought up in Singapore all my life – I hadn’t heard about Karachi bakery but the moment I mentioned to my friends in Mumbai, they were all like ‘omg! It’s now in Mumbai – that’s amazing’ !
Yes, you heard it right, the highly acclaimed Karachi Bakery has opened the doors of its first outlet in Bandra, Linking Road and I got a chance to visit the store! Hyderabad’s famous Karachi Bakery has been delighting hearts since 1953 – the brand is famous for its biscuits, cookies, cakes & a variety of goodies for all the discerning taste buds.
As soon as you enter the outlet in Mumbai, you will be spoilt for choice given the assortment of cookies & biscuits neatly decked up on the wooden shelves. And in terms of décor – it was fun to see food related quirky quotes splashed all over the walls of Karachi Bakery.
Upon moving further inside, I realised that this is just not a bakery. For their Mumbai outlet, Karachi bakery has pushed the envelope by infusing a café into their bakery. It’s not a very big café – it will barely include seating for 10-12 people. But the café serves milkshakes, pizzas, pastas & sandwiches etc.. Oh and a special mention to their cup of chai – I loved it!
So while primarily customers can purchase selected take-home products which I’ve been told are manufactured directly on the first level of the store, you can also drop by the café and order any of these –
What I liked most about Karachi bakery is that they are not trying to compete with the other patisseries present in the city which are doing all sorts of innovations in sweets & desserts. The elegance of Karachi sweets is reflected in Karachi bakery with fresh ingredients being used in simplistic presentations. Also, the prices are very affordable compared to other patisseries. Karachi Bakery also caters to people from all walks of life – I think this place is absolutely deserving of a visit some time.
