If you are looking for a classy fine dining restaurant that comes with a cozy lounge-like vibe and gives you the option to try out delectable cocktails and a fusion food palette, step into Masala Bar – another brilliance from the house of Kalras! Located along Carter Road, I got a chance to party at Masala Bar a couple of weeks back, with my fellow blogger friends for the “Big Bang Night” thanks to Food Bloggers Association, India (FBAI).
As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was impressed by the soft candle-lit interior and the full-length glass windows that overlooked the Arabian Sea. Of course, the best way to kickstart any evening is by having a glass of drink. So, I headed to the cocktail lab, where the skilled bartenders mixed and prepared drinks in a whacky manner! I was given the drinks menu and let me tell you, every single one of the drinks has a unique name! To name a few – Bollywood bhang, Sunset at carter, Bandstand songkran, Berry cooler and Heaven on earth. I decided to go with the Berry Cooler. As a berry lover, I definitely enjoyed this mocktail, it was sweet and wasn’t overbearing. My friend had the Bollywood bhang which arrived in a skull shaped glass.
Moving to the food, I tried the assorted salmon, prawn and tuna sushi rolls that were served alongside wasabi and a range of different sauces. This was yummy! The Mahabaleshwar Chili Poppers, which was essentially chili-stuffed with goat cheese and gruyere mash, was just about okay. It came served in a mini cycle, which really caught my attention. The hauled lamb barra khurchan and the chicken tikka basilica were not that great. My favourite dish was the pepper prawns – it was spicy and just what I needed to go with my drink! And besides I’m a prawn lover. The presentation of each dish was impressive.
I didn’t get a chance to try much in the vegetarian menu and maybe that’s why, I’ve a reason to go back! Overall, it was a good experience for me. I must tell you that on Zomato, the price for two is approximately Rs 2500 but I reckon it’s a bit higher, maybe about Rs 3500 for two people. But it’s a great place if you want to chill with friends over drinks & light food.
