I remember reading an article from Bombay Times last December where writer Salim Khan commented:
“Success has destroyed more people than failure”.
Are there truly some side-effects of fame, stardom and success?
(Anushka Sharma before RNBDJ)
It’s no small achievement to share screen space with an actor of the calibre of SRK in your very first movie. 2008 gave the film industry a beautiful girl-next-door with a vibrant personality. Anushka Sharma debuted 5 years ago with “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” and surprised all of us with a confident performance opposite Shahrukh Khan. She later went on to do films like “Band Baaja Baraat” and “Ladies vs Ricky Bahl” which essentially confirmed that she is here to say.
Of late however, we have been noticing a marginal difference in the actor’s outlook on a couple of things. Post “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”, the media had started reporting consistently about the new brash and over-confident nature of the Bangalorean girl. In a somewhat shocking interview, Anushka Sharma had commented insensitively about Sushant Singh Rajput’s short role in the upcoming film Peekay, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, starring Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma. Anushka had said, “I’m opposite both Sushant and Aamir. Sushant has only eight days worth of work…. Sushant is just a small chapter in my life”. Reports had also started circulating that Anushka had undergone plastic surgery to enhance her features and beauty.
Some might think that cosmetic surgery is a sign of low self-esteem but I would say, it is not unusual to expect actresses succumbing to the high level of competition and putting themselves under the knife. Getting a nose job these days is as normal as getting a new hairstyle. Anushka Sharma is said to be unduly obsessed with Katrina Kaif and has been googling about her hair, skin and makeup over the past few years. The relentless glare of the limelight can be taxing but it is hard to believe that Sharma would be the kind of person to go to a doctor with her rival’s picture and say this was what she wanted to look like.
It was also reported earlier that Anushka’s debut film’s director, Aditya Chopra, called her “not so pretty” during her final audition for “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”. Possibly, this comment stayed on with her all through these years and insecurity did play a part in opting for surgeries.
Well definitely people have their own reasons and it is completely up to one to decide how they wish to project themselves to the world. It is quiet normal for all of us be insecure in some way or another. But when you are a celebrity, it becomes exceptionally difficult to live up to expectations and competition, given that you are constantly scrutinized by the media, industry-folks and the public. Are these the side-effects of stardom? The industry is particularly hard on women and brutally dismissive of women who don’t fit a certain mold. There is a huge difference between getting surgery because you want to look or feel better personally and doing it because you feel compelled to do it in order to excel or be able to achieve the top level in your chosen career.
Granted that we all insecure at times but this new surgery has certainly messed up Anushka’s looks quite a bit. After the possible break up with Ranveer Singh and his rumoured link up with Deepika Padukone, coupled with no prominent releases this year and Parineeti Chopra becoming the YRF’s new favourite – well, these things can pull anyone down! Anushka Sharma is human after all and just another 25 year old girl. Her brash nature could be a way to simply protect herself.
Nevertheless, all we can say is – this girl is pretty and can act. In my opinion, she’s still one of the most talented actress from this generation. And hopefully, this is just a phase. I hope it is !

(May 6, 2013 - 1:51 AM)[…] Anushka Sharma (ie. before plastic surgery) has an uncanny resemblance to late singer Nazia Hassan, who sang “Aap Jaisa Koi” from the Hindi film Qurbani and her song “Disco Deewane” is still ruiling the charts today. Both the girls have a similar face shape – innocent yet strong! Just wish Anushka didn’t mess it up with botox and… never mind! […]
