We at Spotlight have been covering #LakmeFashionWeek exclusively this week. The show began on 16 March 2021 and concluded today, 21 March 2021. While all the designers brought something unique and fresh to the table this time, there were a few that completely stole the show. So, in no particular order, here’s presenting a roundup of our top 10 favourite collections from FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week 2021.
1. Gauri and Nainika
Gauri and Nainika enthralled all of us with their, ‘An ode to our mother’s garden’ collection which explores an abundance of floral prints, and showcases exploding flora in the hues of the earth and the sky as well hues of cerulean blue, grey and green. Dresses in wispy organza and silk chiffon with delicate textures, plenty of shirt collars, easy trapeze cuts, belted in romantic bows along with the brand’s signature billowing ruffles add to the charm. These were such beautiful, light-weight garments. Transported us to some different era, some different world. It’s feminine, modern and romantic.
2. Manish Malhotra
Manish Malhotra’s collection, in partnership with NEXA, is just so dreamy, elegant and beautiful. It pushes the conventional boundaries of Indian wedding couture. The collection brings forth fashion-forward novelty via new age and innovative materials. It evokes nostalgia, offers a dynamic reflection upon the transient nature of time, and embraces the revelries of life.
3. Suneet Varma
Suneet Varma’s show, ’50 Shades of Happiness’, drew inspiration from the magical beauty and splendour of the Valley of Flowers. Inclusive of all things that make him happy — brightly-coloured children’s books, stories from other long-forgotten times and dramatic storytelling — this collection is a mix of modernity and abstract artwork. Loved the veils on the models and the entire presentation is every bride’s dream come true.
4. Masaba Gupta
Masaba’s showcase redefined cool and quirky. Her ‘Summer 21’ collection in partnership with audio giant BOAT, attempts to let us relive times where nothing was ever boring. Playful florals, exotic animals and revamped versions of her iconic motifs, amalgamated with joyous pop colours make a comeback in this collection. The versatile, luxury-inspired pieces include kaftans, shirts, cover-ups and fusion separates
5. Ruchika Sachdev
Ruchika Sachdeva’s show was the Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale and what a finale truly! Her newest collection, ‘The Domino Effect’, brings the label’s ethos to life. The designs are detail-centric, minimal in approach, and utilise the most meticulous artisanal techniques. The collection has been designed to be a marriage between rich heritage, and the contemporary metamorphosis that we’re going through.
6. Anamika Khanna
Anamika Khanna opened the LFW’21 with her collection “Timeless the world”. The collection showcases a wide variety of styles for men and women, from asymmetric kurtas to open-cut sherwanis and structured skirts. We love!

Arpita Mehta in partnership with Logitech presented a rather unique collection called “Reflections”. The color palettes were divided into four vibrant vibrations : sunrise , soothing ocean of blue , burnished mango and the flaming red sunset .The collection features four distinct prints that have curated especially for this union – floral classics catering to versatile women, abstract prints for bold and strong women, leaf prints for the playful boho women and lastly, the butti prints for understated women.
8. Praksh and Georg
The Indo-German designer duo Praksh and Georg presented their latest collection ‘Purn Vritt’ for the label Cocccon, for the first time in India and what an astounding show this was! Their collection resembles the indigenous performing art of Jharkhand which speaks about conflict between circular (jeevan chakra) and linear (jeevan rekha) lifestyle. The collection is made using biodegradable materials that have no trace of negative impact. The principal material is organically produced peace silk , where silkworms completed their full life cycle and become beautiful butterflies. Patterns of this collection are made using zero waste techniques and the collection is plastic free ( crude oil free ) in terms of auxiliaries. A total winner!
9. Pankaj and Nidhi
Pankaj and Nidhi presented their collection “Kaleido” in conjunction with Lakme Salon, which represents their fresh new vision for 2021, all in a mélange of retro-graphic patterns inspired by the basic elements of three-dimensional geometry, especially optical pyramids. This collection is flowing with radiant fabrics, iridescent materials, shimmering and shining with hope and optimism. Holographic embroidery, dexterously hand-cut appliques of triangles, squares, diamond shapes and grading play a role in building on the prismatic theme.
10. Payal Singhal
Finally, Payal Singhal’s collection “Kismet” is the the label’s first-ever line of Indian athleisure in association with R | Elan. The outfits look free-flowing, colorful and comfortable. Love the super easy-to-wear and super elegant garments. The collection aims to bridge the distance between traditional occasion wear and comfort wear. It’s a laid-back line consisting of kurta-joggers, bomber-cord sets jogger saris and more. It’s so unique and fresh. Plus, we loved the picnic / potluck setup. Absolutely gorgeous!
