Whenever Nikhil Advani comes up with a movie, expectations possessing the same kinetic energy move forward. Sure, he has fulfilled such expectations earlier but D-Day wouldn’t be something Advani would want to remember forever. D-Day is a story about the enforced extradition of India’s most-wanted Dawood Ibrahim. Unfortunately, the movie failed to live up to the expectations. D-Day is a blend of an insight of the ISI and RAW working and the soft sides of RAW agents and their shattered lives. A love story between an army man and a prostitute plus Wali Khan’s page of wife and kid slows down the movie to a great extent.

Plot: The movie is about RAW agents who are on a mission in Karachi, Pakistan, trying to capture Iqbal Seth (Rishi Kapoor as Dawood) and bring him to India, alive. The movie begins with Wali Khan (Irrfan Khan) who is sent by Ashwini Rao (Nasser), the RAW director. Wali Khan stays in Pakistan for years, tracking down all the movements of Iqbal Seth waiting for the right moment. He’s supported by an army man, Rudra Pratap Singh (Arjun Rampal) and Zoya Rehman (Huma Qureshi). Everything turns out as planned until the ISI agents who limit the movements of Iqbal Seth find out about the plan.

Technicality: Though film starts brilliantly, the second half loses a great amount of tempo and plot. Overall, the build-up in the movie in the first half is very thrilling but it completely sleeps away in the second half when we witness a relationship between Arjun Rampal and Shruti Hassan. The movie lacked a bit of focus. Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is good with a couple of nice catchy songs. Dialogues could have been a lot more crispier.

Actor’s-take: Rishi Kapoor steals the show. He is simply fabulous and plays the bad man with ease! He’s very convincing with his looks and his body language is amazing. Irrfan Khan as always has given his best and does a wonderful job. Arjun Rampal, too, delivered a strong performance. Huma Qureshi does justice to her role and looks very confident. Shruti Hassan does not have much to do in the film.
