My grandma says that to make really good food, you just need one important ingredient – passion. Well, that’s really true but for someone like me – (well, I stay alone and living alone makes you a little unapologetically lazy) I love to eat out! So, I initially started off by ordering food home. Upon realizing how expensive and unhealthy it is to eat out daily, I started buying ready-to-cook meals. I got bored of that and then implemented a tiffin service (which is so common in Mumbai!). I got bored of that again and then recently kept a cook for myself. After so many trials and errors, I realised it was high time I started cooking for myself ie. cooking healthy food and making what I love to eat. I must confess that it took me a while to experiment with dishes but I can proudly say that NOW, I cook… and perhaps even developed a passion for making food.
Last week, I received a wonderful gift hamper from Chef’s Basket. They had sent me a recipe kit of the Penne Pasta (Creamy Tomato) which included a complete set of premium and authentic ingredients. All ingredients were neatly packed in this impressive package.
When it comes to pasta, freshly made pasta is not so easy to find here. The weather in South Asia makes it difficult to duplicate the fresh pasta that you get in Italy. However, the ingredients are handpicked from their origins including Italy, Spain, Morocco and Mexico. Every product is 100% Natural and has no artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. The best part about the kit – you do not have to look elsewhere to get any additional ingredients – everything is in the recipe kit. Isn’t that amazing?
So here we go!
Creamy Tomato Penne
The ingredients:
- Italian Penne Pasta (Product of ITALY ; made with 100% Italian Durum Wheat)
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil (product of SPAIN Liquid Gold)
- Creamy Tomato Pasta
- Moroccan Green Olives
- Italian Herbs & Sea Salt
It’s really simple to make –
1. Boil The Penne (don’t forget to add the sea salt)
2. Add the Sauce and Toss it Up (with extra virgin olive oil)
4. Garnish with mixed herbs and serve hot!
MY REVIEW
Overall, I really loved the authentic taste of the tomato pasta sauce. It had the right amount of spice and tangy flavor. If you want to add in some sausages or shredded chicken, you can do so by all means! Honestly, I felt like I was in some Italian restaurant in town, enjoying an expensive dish in the monsoon.
The kits are super easy to prepare and you can make your own gourmet “world food” dish in under 20 minutes. They also have many other recipe kits including Thai Drunken Noodles, Olive Basil Pesto in Whole Wheat Spaghetti, Alfredo in Penne , Arrabbiata in Fusilli, Mexican Black Bean Burritos and Thai Green Curry with Jasmine Rice. I would strongly recommend these recipe kits to all of you people.
FYI – Chef Basket is the brainchild of 4 IIT Alumni who got exceedingly concerned about the dearth of options for quality food experiences outside of what the booming food service domain had to offer. Thus, they formed their company Fizzy Foodlabs and Chef Basket is their latest launch.
