Heylo guys! Today I shall blog about my LFW debut experience. Lakmé Fashion Week is the biggest fashion event & everyone in the fashion cult looks forward to it. The biggest designers of India showcase their collections & I had the opportunity to see the madness live at the LFW Winter/Festive 2014 in collaboration with Iness where I played the dual role of a blogger & presenter.
Although I had the chance to attend all 5 days, due to prior commitments I could only drop in for the Grand Finale Day. I managed to see 3 fashion shows – Priyadarshini Rao, Jabong Stage and Varun Bahl. Here’s my take on the shows and the overall experience! As soon as I reached the venue, I was told it was time for Priyadarshini Rao’s showcase. So I entered the main show area & was seated amidst the crème dela crème of the B town.
- Priyadarshini Rao’s collection was known as “An Ode to Indigo”. Picking a strong colour, Priyadarshini presented a stylish vibrant collection that played creatively with the many hues, shades and tones of indigo.
Reviving sheer silhouettes, Priyadarshini’s collection was a gorgeous mix of antique embroidery and subtle designs.What I also liked was how the entire show was presented with a folk music playing in the background to match the theme of the show. The garments were mainly made of dyed silks, chiffons, georgettes and brocade.
Layering was the constant factor of the fusion clothes as three or more ensembles came together seamlessly for a stylish impact. Priyadarshini’s collection consisted of dresses, pants, kurtas, saris and lehengas. .. I was in awe! What a start to the final day of LFW!
As soon as I stepped out of the first show, I noticed a lot of fringe activities happening at the foyer. One of the Lakme Team Experts invited over me over to the Lakme Absolute Salon Nair Bar. There were so many pretty shades of nail polish and the team was offering nail trends from the runways of the world (New York, London & Paris) on my fingertips. I could hardly resist! So I got my nails manicured at the Absolute Nail bar & loved it.
- And by then I had just made it in time for the Jabong Stage where Armaan Aiman and Farah Sanjana had their showcase. Farah Sanjana, Aiman Agha and Armaan Randhawa presented collections with style!
Designers Aiman Agha and Armaan Randhawa created a massive stir with their Indo-western urban-meets-tribal collection inspired by warrior goddess Isavasa titled “Urbane – Isvasa”. They played with the concept of dark and light, using silhouettes in classic black, warm brown and muted nude to portray duality as both; the angst of the warrior mother, their inspiration, along with her youthful warmth. It was edgy and every bit fashionable.
Farah Sanjana brought glitz and glamour on the ramp with their “Chandelier Chic” collection. The silhouettes were a perfect depiction of their inspiration, chandeliers and comprised elegant cropped tops, saris, jackets, blazers, capes, pencil skirts, tuxedo style trousers with inners and evening wear. Timeless and effortless, Farah Sanjana’s clothes are aimed at women who are every bit as sophisticated as they are wild and free. I also particularly loved the Jabong L-Shaped Stage.
After the stunning back-to-back shows, it was time for me to grab a cup of chai. The Taj Mahal counter served me a cup of hot masala chai which felt good!
Then it was time for me to roam around a little bit and take a few selfies at the beautiful Palladium Hotel where the fashion shows were held. Here’s what I wore to Lakmé.

Couldn’t take a snap with him as by that time, I was rushing off for the Varun Bahl show. But nonetheless, things were already so exciting at LFW that I couldn’t have asked for more!
- Finally the last show I attended was Varun Bahl’s! Reliance Trends presented Varun Bahl’s glamorous diffusion collection that revealed his distinct style statement. Varun ensured that it was a collection that will be coveted by women globally. The show opened with Huma Quereshi walking the ramp (wish I could get a better photo!).
Varun’s understated elegance, aesthetics and luxurious choice of fabrics was the highlight of the show. Colours were of prime importance to Varun, which he selected with great care as black, gold, silver, grey, ivory, beige, mustard, rose, pale pink and blue created a Deja vu of his past collections. Zippers played a major role as they appeared on the sleeves of jackets and acted as divisions for the pelpums.
For the finale it was the very vivacious Priyanka Chopra who gave the sleek black pant suit, quilted cropped peplum jacket and silver shell; a classic appeal as she strutted down the ramp with great aplomb. And I simply loved Priyanka’s big hairdo!! 
So yep, that pretty much summed up my Lakmé experience. Yes, now I am down with aching feet and a tired body. But hey, all worth it for the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014. Thank you Iness for the opportunity.
