I’ve always been passionate about fashion – to keep up with style, mix-match and add a bit of my own spunk into any particular look. Before venturing into the creative field, I was lucky to be a part of the international corporate world where I realized how important personal presentation is. Today’s working woman is smart, dynamic, confident and dedicated. On one hand, I knew colleagues who had an impeccable sense of style while some who did not really care much about fashion. Well, personally, I love dressing up for work. Thus, this post is aimed to satiate fashion cravings for all working women in today’s corporate world. Here are some of my picks. Get inspired & enjoy!
The much talked about Lakme Fashion week Summer/Resort 2013 (LFW) ended with a bang last month with some very innovative designs to look out for in 2013. What I loved the most about LFW this season was the entire collection by Nikhil Thampi. The outfit below is refreshing. Agreed that this might be a bit too bold for corporate wear – but if worn with a white spaghetti top inside, it will be apt for work. I, especially, love the wide metallic belt and the sexy white blazer. They look fierce and ooze confidence. The cherry yellow wide-leg trousers are just perfect for the summer. You like?
Actress Priyanka Chopra is wearing a polka-dotted blouse below, with red fitted pants – both from ZARA. This outfit had caught my eyes long back when PC appeared on The Front Row with Anupama Chopra. She looked radiant and just so comfortable. PC completed her look with a gold tusk necklace and black velvet pumps. This is a semi-formal look which works best if you have dinner plans after work with friends or family. This look is professional yet artsy.
Don’t be afraid to experiment. Dressing up work does not necessarily mean you have to be dressed mono-coloured and monotonous. Recently, I have been spotting a fusion of international trends in fashion. Designs, patterns and prints Asia, Africa and the West that mix together and generate a kaleidoscope of fresh, bright, electric colours. The biggest appeal? Well, it’s easy to feel like you’ve spent your entire summer traveling the globe even when you’ve really been madly working!
While some of us love to experiment with vibrant and neon colours, there are still people who are less adventurous when it comes to dressing up for work. Black and White is a favourite amongst the corporate ladies and the below picture is just a perfect example of what many would choose wear to work. With a plop of purple and blue thrown into the ensemble (belt and bag respectively), Swapnil Shinde convinced us that B&W never goes out of vogue during the LFW last month.
Shraddha Kapoor is wearing a beautiful knee length, white Dolce & Gabbana dress. She completed her look with a St Erasmus necklace, metallic Gucci clutch and chunky pumps. This look is amazing if you have an important meeting to attend for the day or if you are about to welcome some important clients. It’s subtle and soft. Shraddha tied her hair up in a bun and kept her make-up simple. I also loved her mint painted nails that completed her day look.
Nautical stripe patterns and prints have become a year-long staple garment but what’s fresh and new this season for corporate women is vertical stripes and wide horizontal stripes. As always, a flattering stripe placement is still key! I personally love the stripes on the blazer below.
Sameera Reddy looks like a corporate chic in the outfit below. Yes, I think she looks pretty classy in her minty Huemn top with a black skirt. Her statement necklace surely added bit of a spunk.
This is another favourite of mine, from the Lakme Fashion Week’13 summer collection! Don’t you just love this Sailex Green and Rust shimmery combination? I think these dresses flatter the Asian skin tone a lot. Also, I feel this is a strong and individualistic collection. Perfect for a corporate dinner party!
Actress Shruti Hassan and Poorna Jagannathan were both spotted on the first day of LFW wearing Shivan and Narresh. Shruti looked beautiful in a color-blocked dress but her hair was a let down! On the other hand, Poorna looked elegant in a white floral print dress, keeping her hair simple. She completed her look with a vintage bag and black heels. These are perfect ensembles for office wear.
Lastly, the Fashionista herself! Ok by now – all of you must have figured out my love for Masaba and her designs. Recently, fashion designer Masaba was spotted at the Satya Paul store launch in Hydrebad, wearing her own creation. And I love this phone-booth print sheath. It is a great head-turner yet keeps you understated for an office environment. Simply in love! What about you?
