RITWIKA GUPTA
Who am I ?
Hi! I am Ritwika and if you’re on this page, it means you’re interested to find out about me! So, here goes…. I was born in Calcutta, brought up in Singapore and lived there for over 22 years. My family is still back in Singapore and I shuttle a lot between Sg & Mumbai. I studied business at the University of London & I’m also a post-graduate in communications. I had started my career in PR & Marketing in Singapore before coming to Mumbai.
From Singapore to Mumbai – why?
This is one of the most common questions I get asked on my social media platforms. What brought me to Mumbai was my love for theatre. I was with a theatre group for 1.5 years, having participated in a good number of plays and skits all over the city. I have been living in Mumbai for over 5 years now and well, this city has become my home! Over the years, I have done a few ads, music videos and even cameos on TV soaps (hell ya!). Well like they say, you should try out everything in life. No, I don’t regret any of it. Every experience has taught me something about myself. I truly enjoy being on stage but unfortunately, I couldn’t only depend on theatre for a livelihood. I took up writing assignments with a number of esteemed local & international publications such as World Spa & Travel Magazine, Epoch Times etc. One thing led to another. And before I knew it, I started scripting, producing and presenting shows on television – I’ve appeared on History Channel, NDTV, MTV, Nippon Network (Japan) and Bloomberg TV India. These shows were a combination of lifestyle, travel, entertainment, fashion, food & luxury.
Am I a full-time blogger?
Well, currently, I anchor a TV show on WION (Zee Media) called MELT that dives deep into the world of advertising, media & marketing. I also write for MELT magazine and host their digital show, Creative Picks. That’s my full-time job. Apart from that, I emcee a lot of social, corporate & lifestyle events. I also spend a considerable amount of time on my dance & whenever I get a chance, I participate in plays and go for auditions. My typical week is quite packed but I like it that way. Of course, it’s not easy but I am so glad that I have this blog to document my journey.
Why blog?
I started Spotlight because I always wanted an outlet to express my thoughts; about random things and daily musings. Living alone in a city like Mumbai isn’t the simplest thing in the world. Of course, now I have a lot of friends but initially, it used to be tough. I’d write to sort of let it all out. And if you skim through my old blog posts, you’d see a lot more stuff about me, as a new girl in the city. Soon, brands started approaching me for collaboration. They had seen my photographs & loved my styling + beauty tips. Honestly, I do not think I have a ‘perfect’ sense of style. I just dress the way I want and I am open to trying out new things, once in a while. But this isn’t just another fashion blog. You’d see a lot of other stuff like food, film reviews, travel, confessions, inspiration for women in their 20s and basic updates on my life, work etc. And I see this blog as an extension of my personality.
It’s been five years and Spotlight has become an integral part of who I am. I have collaborated with well-known brands and talented people. I have tried to put everything I like (films, fashion, beauty) … all under the spotlight. The encouraging response from my readers has made me even more eager to document everything I possibly can.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog. Feel free to click around, leave a comment or send me an email. I promise to do my best to respond as soon as I can.
