Bio-Oil – Beauty Review

Hey guys! I am back with a beauty review this month. Ok ok.. I know I am like blogging after 10 days – no excuses whatsoever but I had just been so busy shifting into my new flat and college new semester started. I have been anchoring quite a bit this month as well. All in all – it’s been a busy busy January but hey, my heart has always been on Spotlight …afterall you guys are my extended family now!

So… finally kickstarting the new year with an interesting beauty product which I received almost a month back. Bio-Oil is an international specialist skincare product formulated to help improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. Loved by women in more than 75 countries, Bio –Oil has now been launched in India and it has taken the beauty industry with a storm! I have friends from all over the city telling me about this amazing new product is and I must try it. To me, it made no sense to give a competent review about a product just by using it for a week or two. Especially for skincare products, one needs to use it for at least a month before any significant differences can be seen.

Well a bit about my skin type- I do not have blemishes on my face but there are a couple of deep-pitted acne scars on my forehead and nothing has quite worked for them yet. So here’s my review on Bio-Oil and tell me what you feel .

What the product claims:

Bio-Oil helps improve the appearance of scars, both old and new. Bio-Oil is formulated to help improve the appearance of stretch marks due to pregnancy, teenage growth spurts and rapid weight gain. Bio- Oil is a daily use product that helps supplement the skin’s natural oils, keeping it beautifully moisturized and improving the even-tone.  Bio-Oil is recommended is the number one selling scar and stretch marks product in multiple countries including the UK and Australia. Winner of 132 SkinCare awards across countries and platforms, Bio-Oil is hypoallergenic and non comedogenic & suitable for sensitive skin as well.

Ingredients:

Bio- Oil is formulated with a blend of four essential plant oils (Calendula, Lavender, Rosemary and Chamomile) and Vitamins (A and E) that are known to be beneficial to skin health and appearance. It also contains the trademarked ingredient PurCellin Oil TM, which ensure absorption into the second layer of the skin, rather than superficially acting on the surface.

Price:
Rs. 450 for a 60 ml pack

My Review:

Ok firstly, for all the pregnant ladies out there – I would advise you to do a sample test or consult your doctor before using this. (psst..in fact pregnant or not, I’d still recommend everyone to do a sample test on small patch of their skin before religiously using the product….just be on the safer side!) So the hamper came to me in the form of a beautifully packaged gift with a complimentary orange scrub and the auburn-coloured 60 ml bottle of Bio-Oil. Pretty, isn’t it?

Application of the bio-oil was not too difficult at all. You are recommended to apply a small portion, twice daily on the specific scars. Bio-Oil is actually “dry oil” thanks to PurCellin OilTM which ensures quick and easy absorption into the skin, without leaving a greasy residue. So for me personally, I think in a month – my superficial blemishes did reduce to a large extent.  It is also an effective moisturizing oil which can even be mixed to your regular moisturizing day/night cream. There are no side effects and it is highly effective for pregnant ladies who wish to keep the stretch marks at bay.

What’s good:

It’s a great moisturizing cream and it did lighten my superficial marks.

What’s not so good:

Unfortunately it did not work for my deeper acne scars on the forehead. However creams in general, hardly work for ice-picked or deep acne scars. If you want to get rid of the deeper scars, you need to opt for laser, derma-roller, subcision surgery or go for regular chemical peels.

My rating:

3.5/5

So ladies, have you used Bio-Oil?
