Changing Hair Trends Over The Year
Whether it is Sharmila Tagore’s retro bouffant or PC’s latest bangs, Bollywood fans all across India and abroad have always been inspired to copy and flaunt the innovative hairstyles brought in fashion by our very own B’Town celebrities! Check out the popular changing hair trends in Bollywood.
1) Bouffant Hair
The modern day puff which you see on our top actresses today have been inspired by yesteryear’s retro bouffant. This was an amazing fashion trend in the 60s. From the glamorous Sharmila Tagore, to the elegant Waheeda Rahman and Saira Banu, nobody could resist the beauty of a bulky bouffant.
2) Sadhana’s fringe
If Hollywood had an Audrey Hepburn, we had our very Sadhana. The delicate tiny fringe was also a sensation back in the 60s-70s. Sadhana’s hairstyle in Waqt was inspired from Audrey’s look in Roman Holiday.
3) Waves
When the 80s came, a lot of the trends in Bollywood started changing. Heroines started preferring hair with waves and volume. Dimple Kapadia’s hairdo in Saagar became a rage. Her auburn mane had the right amount of volume, waves and looked beautiful on screen. Dimple still has gorgeous hair!
4) Straight Hair
Ironed/Blow-dried poker straight hair started becoming popular only in 90s. Karisma Kapoor’s straightened hair in Raja Hindustani became very popular after the film that many women queued up to salons to get their hair straightened too. Karisma herself kept the style in many of her later films.
5) Short Hair
Kajol’s short mushroom styled hair in Kuch Kuch Hota Hain became a talk of the town after the film released. It was different, smart and defined the changing tastes of women in the late 90s. Taking a cue from the actress was another B-town beauty, Preity Zinta who spotted short hair in many of her films like Dil Se, Kya Kehna and Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega. Short hair was popular even till early 2000s.
6) Bangs
Post 2010 saw a combination of hairstyles in Bollywood as top actresses started experimenting with a range of different styles. From loose curls to straight hair and braids and many more. What caught our eye this year was the trendy bangs bandwagon sported by actress Priyanka Chopra. Bangs have also been donned by actresses like Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and Genelia D’souza.
So girls – which is your favourite hairstyle? Personally I still love the Bouffant. It’s elegant, majestic and gives the illusion of volumized hair.
I say bring the 60s back!
