2014 has been an interesting and fast-moving year for the world. As 2014 draws to an end, we want to start 2015 on a positive note after reflecting on the events that have happened this year. Like the end of every year, let’s promise to make the coming year a fulfilling one!
Some of the events that have happened this year have been extremely unfortunate – such as the Ebola outbreak in Africa- but some of them restore our faith in humanity-when Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi won the Nobel Prize. From Modi’s landslide victory to the disappearance of MH370, this year has also been action-packed from January till December. The annexation of Ukraine, the rise of ISIS and the Gaza conflicts were prime examples of impactful historical happenings that shook the world. This year has been an absolutely terrible year for Malaysian aviation, with MH370 disappearing in March, MH17 being shot down along the Russian-Ukrainian border, and with Air Asia plane QZ8501 crashing into the sea in December. There have been several positive events too- when the Indian spacecraft Mangalyaan reached Mars and when WHO declared India polio-free.
On a personal front, well during the past year, I have tried to only focus on doing mostly what I like – anchoring, blogging, writing, acting & oh yes, a bit of dance too. I am now a post-graduate and currently in a full-time job doing what I like. Even though I knew at the back of my head that it is not going to be an easy journey, I didn’t care & I just kept focusing doing what I love. Assuredly, I have come to a realization that I have too many loves & I do not feel the need to be typicalised as long as I am able to balance my energy for all. The year has also been a tough one due to various personal reasons but it has only made me stronger. Planning is so important and I am going to make myself a better planner next year onwards. I also realised that our desires, wants and needs keep changing with the different phases we are in. It is not necessarily a bad thing but we need to accept the change and that all of us change, people change. Nothing is permanent, there are bound to be challenges – it is all about accepting and learning from them. Thank you 2014, for making me a stronger individual.
Looking forward to 2015, I am still going to do what I love and encourage people to dream and strive for what their hearts truly desire. Why do we have to care if people approve of it or not. I understand now that we need to be a little selfish for our own good. I do what I love for myself, not for other people. I would also like to say that we should not be afraid to make mistakes. It’s all a part and parcel of our learning journey!
As we all bid goodbye to 2014, the one thing that everyone is busy with is their New Year resolution. While I have shared my 2015 resolution with you above, I sometimes wonder how long do we actually stick to these promises once the year sets in .Breaking resolutions soon after making them is a trait that can be found in almost everyone around us. Check out this hilarious video by Culture Machine called Resolutions vs Reality as it perfectly sums up how people make all sorts of New Year resolutions and then so badly fail at it.
On that note, wishing all my readers a superb 2015 – Happy New Year to all of you!
Xoxo,
