You can’t deny that this IS truly the tech era – we live in a digital world today ; a world where you can shop your favourite brands, order grocery, buy cosmetics – all of it, with just the click of a button. Similarly, ordering food online has become very common. There are plenty of online food websites that let you order your favourite dish from a restaurant of your choice. But what happens when you crave for something different? Something new perhaps? And maybe even ghar ka khaana? Fret not – there’s HolaChef to the rescue.
I’m pretty sure the young, urban working crowd living in Mumbai alone will know about HolaChef already. It’s an online food website/app that serves food with daily new menus of breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner; along with packaged edibles. All the meals here are prepared by celebrated chefs as per a new menu every day.
It’s a fairly easy-to-use website. Once you log in, HolaChef will ask for your pincode. I’m assuming this is how they detect & give you the choices of food & menu made by chefs in your area.
HolaChef’s menu is categorized according to breakfast, lunch, snacks, flavours and dinner. Depending on the time of day you are ordering, the menu will be different. But to be honest, there’s a lot of variety available. Take a look at the short clipping of the HolaChef website below –

There are set meals, ala carte dishes, beverages, desserts & munchies etc.. and there are all types of cuisines. From Asian to Continental, Italian to Mexican & of course our very own desi khaana. Below each dish, you will find the name of the chef who’s prepared the meal. Once you’ve decided what to order, you have to add the meals to the cart & then check out. Before checking out, you will be asked for a time slot option – which means you can expect the meals to be delivered at a much later time if you desire.
I have been ordering from HolaChef for a long time now. Last Sunday morning, I decided to go with a breakfast meal – a spanish omelette with brown bread slices and chicken sausages prepared by Chef Tejasvi (Rs 150). I decided to also include a fresh cucumber and aloe vera juice from RAW (Rs 150). It cost me a total of Rs 300 for a healthy breakfast.
For one of the midweek lunches, I decided to opt for HolaChef again & this time round, I went with Chef Sandeep Harmalkar’s Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Rissole Potatoes (Rs 220). I really loved this meal. This was absolutely delicious!
Also, in general I really like the packaging done by HolaChef. The food was packed well in a ecofriendly bag. One container had the spaghetti and the other contained the potatoes. Tissues and a fork were put into a sealed bag. The portions were quite generous and I was full by the end of the meal.
And finally for dinner yesterday, I opted for HolaChef, YET AGAIN. I went for a Konkani Egg Curry with Chapatis by Chef Archana Vohra (Rs 99) and 2 Gulab Jamuns by Chef A. Rajbhar (Rs 50). This came up to total of Rs 149.
Yes by now, you’d know what a foodie I am! And I wasn’t disappointed. Yes, delivery takes a while – at least an hour but it’s worth the wait. I’d recommend you try out something from Chef Sandeep Harmalkar’s offerings because that’s the meal I enjoyed the most. I’d say most items on HolaChef are priced reasonably while some aren’t. Quality of the food is usually good and served warm. What I like about HolaChef most is their amazing variety – from fancy dishes to typical home meals and also healthy options like salad and juice, there’s something for everyone out there!
