Lakme Fashion Week 2016 – DAY 2

Welcome to Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016. Well to put it simply, Day 2 was all about showcasing sustainable & Indian textiles and I think this is a very critical part of the entire extravaganza. I attended a number of shows on Day 2 but I am going to share with you some of my favourites from the second day. Here are some highlights for those who missed out on the Lakme Fashion Week 2016 Day 2!

Swati Kalsi

I had interviewed Swati Kalsi sometime back for my channel where she about handcrafted designs and reviving the art of ‘Sujani’ embroidery that comes from Bihar. This time round as well she used delicate Sujani embroidery on tussar, gicha and cotton silk in white, red, caramel and black. There were off shoulder tops, jumpsuits – an amazing fusion of Indian textiles & contemporary silhouettes.

Now, this was one show that truly blew my mind! Themed as ‘Transience’, the collection is inspired by Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese rubric of rustic simplicity and understated elegance; a quiet, free-flowing osmosis of natural objects and processes. Hand-printed ajrakhs, handspun and handwoven khadis are both its canvas and its brush. And its forms — influenced by Gurunsi architecture and the elaborately decorated walls of Burkina Faso in Africa — are geometric and linear. I thought this line was simple, modest yet stylish, keeping the essence of handcraft and fine detailing together – this included dresses, skirts, jackets give a nice blend of Asian + Western fashion.

Gaurang

What I loved most about Gaurang’s collection at Lakme Fashion Week this season is that it wasn’t JUST about the clothes – the stylish hair, big skirts. His collection had a Spanish vibe about it – very vintage – saris with puffed up blouses. Loved it !

Wendell Rodricks

Of course the finale show of Lakme Fashion Week Day 2 was that Wendell Rodricks’ which involved a lot of colour blocking, I’d say something that’s way ahead of its times. There were saris, skirts, ghaghras, jumpsuits.. all speaking volumes about where trends are headed this season – fusion!

Before I wrapped up of course, I was quick to pull out my LYF smartphone and click some beautiful night photos of the Lakme Fashion Week terrace at St Regis. Well truly, just like the beautiful clothes at Lakme Fashion Week, the LYF smartphone is stunning as well. They even have a photo-booth & that’s where I’ll be headed tomorrow.
