Here are my top picks from the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 which was held at the Hotel Palladium from 18th to 22nd March. So naturally, I had some favourites from the biggies namely Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Raghvender Rathore, Manish Malhotra and Satya Paul by Gauri Khan. At the same time, there were a few less hyped collections, (I would say the underdogs) that caught my eyes – something about these collections were unique – they drew inspiration from elements that are common and their ideas translated beautifully onto the garments. A big thumbs up to Neha Aggarwal, Sonu Dharnidharka, Pallavi Singhee and Rimi Nayak.

‘From Russia, with Love’ by Neha Aggarwal tells you a tale of two cultures. Russian inspired silhouettes and motifs fused with Indian fabrics and techniques are the crux of Neha Agarwal’s this year’s collection. Usage of intricate hand-embroidered appliqués on georgette, ahimsa, dupion, pure mal, tussar and pattu silk on Russian inspired artwork makes this array of designs one of a kind. The collection is a reminisce of form-fitting fashion of early 1900s Russia. Eye-catching dresses and bamboo denim jackets with cape collars, adorned with cross-stitch detailing and floral embroidery; circular dresses with hand block printed motifs and denim crop tops with printed Russian dolls and flared jumpsuits in pure silk with a denim bodice and embroidered scalloped sleeves complete this resplendent collection.
Inspired by the classical beauty of the ancient Greco-Romans, Sonu Dharnidharka’s collection, ‘Eos’. comprise classy silhouettes accentuated with unique hand-embroidered designs. This collection makes the modern woman feel sexy, strong and comfortable in fresh and timeless colours that never lose vogue.
Pallavi Singhee’s collection this year at Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2015 –A’ la suite, which means a continuation in French, is a sequel to her spring – summer collection j’aime la vie (I love life). Reminiscent of the places visited, travel plans and memorable souvenirs, this year’s Rimi Nayak’s collection, travel tales, for the Lakme Fashion Week 2015 was one of a kind and unforgettable. A vibrant combination of bold colours and geometric shapes created this lovely collection that is synonymous with travel maps. Inspired by cartographic art of the modern era this collection is a work of sheer genius. Cartography, the art of making maps, is an age-old technique which is represented in the collection graphically and through a plethora of interwoven webs of intricate surface-embellishment techniques, forming the thematic base.
