It’s raining, it’s pouring! Are you all rejoicing in the fragrance of monsoon? Well, it’s been stormy lately. I love monsoons but to be honest, the season brings along a set of hurdles with itself. After living in India for 3 years now, I’ve realized that one of the major concerns during monsoon is water leakages. I kid you not – water dripping from the ceiling or the walls are not uncommon complains to hear these days. While the pitter-patter on the window panes can be a welcome relief from the summer heat, it can wreak havoc for homeowners in their bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms.
Leakages not only spoil the entire look of the home but, also tend to damage the expensive interior including furniture and furnishing. The effects are even more prominent after monsoon due to the sight of peeled paint and water seepage marks across the wall and ceiling in an otherwise well-kept house.
Well fret not because there are several signs that will tell you that your home is likely to spring a leak this season and a quick way to attend to these would be to use Pidilite’s waterproofing specialist brand Dr Fixit.
So, Does Your Home Need Waterproofing This Monsoon?
Terrace
The terrace is the first place that is likely to let the rain into your home. Watch out for cracks in the terrace, separation gaps, growth of plants and weeds, damaged or loose tiles, debris blocking the outflow pipes. There are various products in the market that can be used to waterproof the terrace in the monsoon. Dr.Fixit Roofseal and Dr.Fixit Newcoat cool are amongst them. These are easy to use products which come with easy brush applications.
External walls
The rains lash down in force and when they are accompanied by strong winds. They are liable to take a toll on your building’s external walls. Check to see if the paint is peeling or has become patchy. Cracks in the exterior walls or plants growing out of the walls will serve as an easy duct for water. Once again, there are unique waterproofing products like Dr. Fixit Raincoat – a high performance acrylic elastomeric coating for external walls – and Dr. Fixit Newcoat Ezee which can bear heat, humidity and rainfall and form a layer around the construction of external walls as well as terraces.
Termite infestation
If you spot signs of termite infestation in your home, it is quite likely that they may have caused cracks in the walls and the concrete as well. Get the infestation in control and have the area waterproofed to seal the cracks caused by the termites.
So there you go! Carefully notice some of the above signs and block all the possible entry points for rainwater into your home. Don’t underestimate the need to waterproof your homes and tend to cater to these immediately. Afterall, if Big B endorses it, then kuch toh baat hoga zaroor!
