Two movies. Two love stories. Two trailers which were launched one after another in the past week. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani AND Lootera’s trailers left some lasting impressions on me. While both trailers were undeniably different from each other, they both had one thing in common – Love!
Take a look:
Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani
While we told you how much we loved the first look of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, the trailer definitely elevated the entire package a notch above our expectations. Ayan Mukherji’s first film “Wake Up Sid” was a coming of age story which I really loved! And his new movie seems like it is about falling in love… with life! A person’s journey from the age of 21 – 30 has shades of all kinds but there is something about one’s first tryst with adulthood, love and life that remain unforgettable. The madness of youth has been captured in this trailer.

Deepika Padukone has worked with Ranbir Kapoor previously in Bachna Ae Haseeno where she was rather new, mediocre and uncomfortable. But here you can really see her oozing with confidence. The Veronica effect? Must be! Joining Deepika & Ranbir, we also have on board the good looking Aditya Roy Kapur and the very talented Kalki Koelchin. It is good to see Kalki appearing more frequently in comparatively bigger projects. But for me personally, Ranbir steals the show! Back in (what seems like) a Casanova role, Kapoor is a complete natural when it comes to acting, in a similar way his father was, especially in the scene where he was trying to figure out Deepika’s identity in the beginning. We already know about his amazing acting prowess and it is good to see him doing something light-hearted and breezy this time round.
The music of the film is definitely going to be a blockbuster. I am already humming “Badtameez Dil Mane Na!” and “Seedhi saadhi chori sharaabi ho gayi” ! Being a Karan Johar production, the trailer looks glossy and filled with beautiful locales. Jointly produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Dharma Productions – the icing on the cake has to be the witty last dialogue of the trailer – “Tum samajhte kyon nahin ki agar main tumhare saath do minute aur rahi toh… mujhe tumse pyar ho jayega… PHIR SE” ! This line is definitely the “publicity dialogue” for the film, encashing on Deepika & Ranbir’s ex-love affair. Looking forward to this? Totally!

I loved Vikramaditya Motwane’s previous films – the eccentric “Dev D” and the subtle “Udaan”. This will be Motwane’s first full-fledged love story which is said to be based on O Henry’s “The Last Leaf”. Set in the stunning old world charm of Kolkata and Dalhousie, Lootera brings together for the first time- Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. It marks the coming together of the industry’s biggest creative powerhouses — Balaji, and Phantom Pictures, represented by Anurag Kashyap (DevD), Vikramaditya Motwane (Udaan) and Vikas Bahl (Chillar Party). I am pretty much in love with this trailer but what makes it outstanding is the entire vintage feel. Amit Trivedi gave some soothing background music and hoping for some timeless tracks, from him, in this album. A dazzling mix of style and substance, of the sublime and the spectacular, Lootera looks edgy and is sure to give competition to Ayan’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani!
I, personally, think Ranveer looks the best with Sonakshi Sinha. In fact, out of all the films he has done, he looks his best in this one. With his boyish looks and Sonakshi’s demure avatar, they have a very unusual yet striking chemistry. Sonakshi reminds me of the yesteryear heroines. Though she is often criticized for her weight, I personally feel she looks simply classy in this one! After Kahaani and Barfi, Lootera will be another film to be shot in my beautiful city – Calcutta ! I just keep getting this feeling that this movie is going to be a surprise for all of us…a good surprise! So while I am eager to watch both films, for me – Lootera wins by half a mark. YJHD will be released end of May while Lootera will be released on the first week of July.
Which love story are you looking forward to, this summer?
