Get on the ice! It may be hot outside, but the Skating Rink at Marina Bay Sands is cool and fun – the ideal rink to try out Michelle Kwan-inspired triple axels and chassés (after all, she did fly in to christen it). Personal skates aren’t allowed, but make sure you bring a pair of socks. It’s $7 for admission, $3 for skates and – gasp! – $6 for foot-warmers, so save your shekels for a post-skate hot chocolate. Canal Level, The Shoppes at MBS, 10 Bayfront Ave (6688 8868, www.marinabaysands.com). Daily 10am-5pm, 6-10pm.

Expect to see 10 storey-high steel cranes come to life in this waterfront spectacle by Emmy Award-winner Jeremey Railton every night at Resorts World. Inspired by the birds’ courtship dance ritual, the free 10-minute nightly performance can be seen from as far as VivoCity and uses stunning light and water effects, pyrotechnics and digital art. The water ‘wings’ of the cranes span 25m so you could imagine the amount of water used per show – it’s enough to last a person 50 years!
Embrace lovely Thai food this Feb at Bangkok Jam! The modern space – with its timber and brick decor, and campy soundtrack of Bananarama and Rick Astley – gives little hint of its Thai provenance. But the breezy menu, dotted with snapshots of Bangkok, dishes out quickly cooked and delicious staples. Start with a pomelo salad tossed with chilli and dried shrimp or the fried discs of fish cakes sprinkled with fried basil leaves. Tender chunks of curry-marinated chicken are charcoaled in pandan leaves, while the sweet, thick gravy of the massaman curry has tender chunks of beef and potato. Wash it all down with a tall glass of chilled lemongrass tea.
