Be Your Own Hero | Valentine’s Day

When I was a teenager, I remember saving up, days prior to Valentine’s Day, making mandatory trips to the nearby gift store, creating paper greeting cards, putting on my favourite hair band and heading to Mcdonald’s to meet my high school date. Today of course, mushy posts on social media have replaced greeting cards. The hair band has been substituted by statement earrings and the ‘date place’ is definitely not Mcdonald’s anymore.

Valentine’s Day

While a lot of people think Valentíne’s Day is overrated and that you don’t need a specific day to express your love, I honestly feel that there is nothing wrong in taking some extra effort to make your beloved feel special. After all, love is the only emotion which needs to be expressed. If there is something which I, however, do not like about Valentine’s Day is the self-pity which many ‘single’ men and women bestow upon themselves. I have many friends who are independent, successful and single! Instead of having an innate sense of pride and confidence, I feel that the same people, sometimes, become perturbed with the whole hoopla surrounding Valentine’s Day. This eventually makes me question why would anyone need the validation of another person to make them feel good about themselves? So, this post is dedicated to all the single women out there! Love is wonderful. Love is confusing. But don’t worry about finding love because you’ll always find it, when you are ready for it, at the right time. This Valentine’s day – go on a self-date! Look good, treat & pamper yourself and be your own hero! To all the women who are gleefully in love, enjoy it completely with your special someone. And whether you’re headed for a date or a self-date, I’ve decided to help you a little with what you could wear!

I fell in love with this pink cape dress, the moment I saw it. Once a garment which was reserved only for superheroes and royalty, the cape is now making a return to fashion. For me, pink embodies romance & the cape has a strong, liberating vibe about it. And that’s exactly the look I was aiming for. I also wanted to make sure that the garment is the star piece and gets its moment of glory by keeping everything else simple. I accessorized the dress with a simple neckpiece, a black clutch and a pair of spiked earrings to add some edge to the look. Well, love is in the air and if you are in search for a stand out look this Valentine’s Day, do give this look a try! And if you do, don’t forget to tag me in your pictures on instagram, twitter and facebook.
